Affordable Housing 101 Video: Public Land for Affordable Housing

Using publicly-owned land for affordable housing is a key strategy to tackle the puzzle of affordable housing

For most housing developments, the cost of land is one of the most expensive factors. The City offsets this cost by giving land at little or no cost to affordable developers. 

The 2020 Affordable Housing Bond funded $16 million to buy land near for affordable housing near transit. Since 2016, the City has contributed 20 sites at little to no cost to affordable developers. This has created more than 700 units of affordable housing.
