Block Gallery, located on the first and second floors of the Raleigh Municipal Building, features five to six exhibitions annually. The gallery features artwork from artists who live or work in Chatham, Durham, Johnston, Orange, or Wake County. Exhibitions are scheduled through a call for artists, juried by a selection panel comprised of visual arts professionals, Raleigh Arts Commissioners, and city staff.

History

Block Gallery was designed to serve as one of the city's premiere exhibition spaces. Managed by the Raleigh Arts Commission, the gallery has introduced close to two hundred artists to area residents and visitors since its inception in 1984. Dedicated in 2006 to honor community leader Miriam Preston Block, the 2296 square feet of marble walls, illuminated by custom lighting, provide an ideal setting to showcase original artwork.

Block2 Video Series was introduced in 2010 as an expansion on the themes and ideas presented in Block Gallery. Block2 showcases videos by local artists and community collaborations.

In accordance with its mission "to connect local artists to community through ongoing exhibitions and public outreach," the Gallery looks forward to continuing to foster artists and great art!
