Recreation Division Volunteer Opportunities

The Recreation Division offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities for all ages.

The following are some of the opportunities available:

Aquatic Coaches

The Aquatics Division is looking for volunteers to assist the Raleigh Aquatics coaching staff in supervising / directing program participants of the intra-City Swim Team. Volunteers will help organize swim meet competitors to ensure efficient operations of the meet. They may also assist at team socials. The number of volunteer hours would vary by event.

English as a Second Language Instructor

The English as a Second Language (ESL) Program is looking for ESL Volunteer Instructors to teach free English Classes to the community. The instructors teach basic/beginner level classes, typically 2 hours a week.

Mordecai Historic Park Docent

Mordecai Historic Park is looking for volunteers to work as Park Docents. Docents will attend an initial two-hour training session and shadow at least two complete tours. A docent manual with all tour information is provided for each volunteer. There will also be additional training sessions offered throughout the year that volunteers may attend to review / refresh their knowledge of the park. Docents would lead one hour tours of the Mordecai house and outbuildings.

Mordecai Historic Park Special Events

Mordecai Historic Park is looking for volunteers to help park staff run special events. Jobs would vary with each event but can range from ticket sales to giving brief tours to helping staff set up and break down the event. Volunteer commitment would be at least two special events per year.

Special Events Volunteer

Throughout the year the Parks and Recreation Department hosts special events for the public. Some of these events include the July 4th Celebration, Kidsfest and Springfest. We are always looking for volunteers to help out at these events.

Specialized Recreation Volunteer

The Specialized Recreation Program is looking for volunteers to assist individuals with developmental and/or physical disabilities in diverse events and activities including Wake County Special Olympics.

Youth Sports Coach

The Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department relies on volunteer coaches for all of our organized youth sports leagues. We are looking for the following coaches: Basketball, Lacrosse, Baseball, Football, Tennis, Swimming and more. Download Coaching ApplicationAdobe Acrobat PDF Document
