In 1984, the Adventure Program was born out of the city's Nature Program. Over the years the goal has always been to provide instructional opportunities in a wide range of outdoor adventure activities.

Activities include kayaking, canoeing, mountain biking, climbing, backpacking, whitewater rafting and many others.

These activities are provided to youth and adults through year-round programs, summer camps, special events, trips, clinics, and customized programs. We hope you find something of interest and join us for an adventure soon.

Program Information: Programs are scheduled on a yearly basis however we offer custom programs as another means to meet your recreational needs.

Program Purpose:

  • Provide enjoyable adventure experiences that embrace experiential learning.
  • Create an atmosphere where group experiences foster a sense of team.
  • Provide instructional foundations in a wide range of adventure activities.
  • Focus on safety issues and manage risks in the most proactive manner.
  • Provide an opportunity for environmental appreciation and stewardship.

Skill Level Key: This rating system is designed to inform you of the skill and fitness level needed in order to participate as well as enjoy Raleigh's Adventure Programs. Levels are offered as general guidelines to help match programs to your individual skill and fitness levels.

  • Level 1 - No prior knowledge or experience is necessary, with basic fitness level. A basic fitness level is half an hour of aerobic activity 1-2 times a week.
  • Level 2 - Some previous experience is recommended, with moderate fitness level. A moderate fitness level is an hour of aerobic activity 2-3 times a week.
  • Level 3 - Familiar with the activity, with moderate to good fitness level. A good fitness level is anything over an hour of aerobic activity 3 times a week.
