Chavis Carousel

John Chavis Carousel

John Chavis Memorial Park has been home to the No.2, Special Three Abreast, Allan Herschell Carousel since 1937. It was purchased from the Allan Herschell Company for the sum of $4000. This carousel was refurbished before it was sold to the City of Raleigh. Therefore, this carousel possibly dates from 1923 or earlier and probably traveled before it made it's home here. The band organ is a Wurlitzer 146A with an ornately carved and decorated facade.
