Trolley Tours begin at Mordecai Historic Park every Saturday, March through December. Enjoy a narrated tour of Downtown Raleigh from an "old" point of view! Trolley Tours run on Saturdays only. The Trolley can be rented for special events and charter tours.

Hours: The trolley leaves from Mordecai Historic Park on Saturdays, March through December, at 11am, 12pm, 1pm, and 2pm.

Admission: $10 adults, $4 youth (7-17), $0 children (6 and under)

Reservations: Reservations for the Historic Raleigh Trolley Tours can be made one week in advance by calling 919-857-4364 or by visiting the Mordecai Historic Park gift shop.

Route: The Historic Raleigh Trolley Tour lasts approximately one hour.
The trolley stops at Mordecai Historic Park, Bicentennial Plaza, Joel Lane House, Fayetteville Street & City Market. Passengers can de-board at these stops and re-board at no additional fee. Seating is not guaranteed when re-boarding the trolley. Passengers can only ride the entire route once.

History

From the first mule-drawn street car in 1886 to the first electric trolley cars in 1933, the trolley was part of the Raleigh street scene. Bloomsbury Park was opened in 1912 at the end of the trolley line, near Old Lassiter Mill, to attract riders. After an absence of five decades, the trolley returned to the downtown streets in 1989.

Rentals

The Raleigh Trolley is available for rent for special event transportation or for private charter tours.

Rental Rates

  • $75 an hour
  • $100 damage deposit*
  • $15 application fee
  • Minimum of two hours
  • Fees includes trolley and driver
  • Inclusive hours are from your initial pick-up point to final drop-off point.

Charter Rates - A one hour private tour of downtown Raleigh

  • $150
  • $100 damage deposit*
  • $15 application fee
  • Fees includes trolley, guide and driver
  • The pick-up and drop off for these charter tours is Mordecai Historic Park.
  • If your group needs to arrange and alternate pick up and drop off point, there is a $50 charge.

*Damage deposit should be returned to you approximately six weeks after your rental, assuming no damage was done to the trolley.

Events

July 4th 11am-2pm: The Raleigh Trolley will conduct special tours as part of the Independence Day Celebration at the State Capitol. The Trolley will depart from the Capitol at 11am, 12pm, 1pm, and 2pm. Admission is $3, children six and under ride free.
