The Sgt. Courtney T. Johnson Community Center is located in Southgate Park in Southeast Raleigh. The center has a large meeting room and a warming kitchen. This center is used for various recreation programs for children and adults in the Southgate community.
On December 4, 2007 the Raleigh City Council unanimously voted to rename the center after Sgt. Courtney T. Johnson. Sgt. Johnson was a lifetime Southgate resident that was killed while fighting in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Sgt. Johnson was an enthusiastic employee at the center from 1997-2000.
