The Construction Management Division of the Public Works Department manages Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) through various stages: planning, site selection and acquisition, consultant selection, contract negotiations, project development and design, bidding, construction contract award, payments, completion and acceptance by the City.
Responsibilities include estimating budget monitoring, and dealing with environmental, permitting and legal issues. Oversight of specialty areas include asbestos and lead paint abatement, underground storage tank removal and clean up. Works with a variety of City departments and State agencies to determine specific project needs and concerns in order to incorporate them into project design and contract documents. Projects include construction and renovations of City owned buildings.
The range of projects include parking decks, transit facilities, performing arts facilities, fire stations, police facilities, general government and service facilities, roof replacements and streetscape improvements.
