The Planning Commission advises the City Council on future growth and development issues that affect the City. The Planning Commission reviews and makes recommendations to the Council on Comprehensive Plan items, redevelopment plans, changes in development regulations, requests to rezone property, and reviews preliminary site plans, group housing plans and subdivisions.
Composed of eleven members, eight appointed by the Raleigh City Council and three appointed by the Wake County Board of Commissioners. All members serve terms of two years and cannot serve more than three consecutive terms or six consecutive years.

The Committee of the Whole is an informal special meeting of the full Planning Commission to have further discussions on specific referral items.
The Planning Commission Committee of the Whole meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.

The Text Change Committee is a meeting to have further discussions on specific referral items.
The Committee meets at 9:00 a.m. on the third Tuesday of the month.

The Strategic Planning Committee is a meeting to have further discussions on specific referral items.
The Committee meets at 11:00 a.m. on the third Tuesday of the month.
Meeting Location: RMB Conference Room 305
The Transit & Land Use Committee is a meeting to have further discussions on specific referral items.
The Committee meets at 1:30 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of the month.
