Process Description:
The Field Revision process is for plan changes that are made to a project after the permits have been issued. Once the permit is issued, project management transfers to the field inspector assigned to the address. All modifications should be presented to the assigned trade field inspectors. The field inspector determines when the changes are sufficient enough that they will require another plan review. When multiple trades are involved in a change request, the building inspector will coordinate meetings until resolution.
The field inspector is authorized to make binding code decisions. In the event that the inspector is uncomfortable with the scope of work, the project change should be referred to the field supervisors. Supervisors will work through the issues to resolution or refer the project to be re-submitted for a new review. Re-submitted plans are required to have a field revision form (commercial
) or (residential
) attached for proper routing and instruction. Field revision forms (commercial
) or (residential
) are completed by the client and signed by the field inspector supervisor.
Revisions on permitted projects will not be accepted without a field revision form (commercial
) or (residential
) signed by the field supervisor.
See the City of Raleigh Development Services Glossary for any unfamiliar terms.
Are there any prerequisites to this process?
How do I start the process?
A discussion must be held with the field inspector to determine if the changes can be handled in the field. The inspector will make the decision and if changes can not be handled in the field, they will sign a field revision form (commercial
) or (residential
) stating why the changes are being sent back for review and which trades will need to review these changes. The client will then bring the plans to the Development Services Customer Service Center for plan review routing.
