GIS Day 2011 - A Capital Area GIS Showcase was a big success with over 250 people attending the free, public event on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at the Raleigh City Museum.
This year visitors enjoyed a colorful map gallery with over 50 maps and displays depicting a wide range of data and analysis, including tornado damage assessment, stormwater inventroy mapping, cancer incidences throughout the state, open space and greenway inventories, assessment of state forest resorces, and 2010 census mapping.
Participants were also able to learn about and interact with GIS tools through interactive demonstrations, Including the following:
GIS departments from the City of Raleigh, Wake County and N.C. State Government organzied and hosted the event.
GIS Day is a global event held in more than 100 countries. The purpose of GIS Day is to educate children and adults about geography and the technology of GIS around the world. The National Geographic Society sponsors GIS Day, held each year during Geography Awareness Week.
