Once the payment has been received for an ABC inspection permit, the NC ABC Commission application will be processed as outlined below:
Zoning Inspection
Zoning Enforcement will complete an administrative review of the project and does not usually visit the establishment. The zoning review is necessary to ensure that the address is zoned for the intended use. Once the project is approved by the zoning official, the NC ABC Commission application is then reviewed by the building inspector.
Building Inspection
The client is required to contact the building inspector at 919-796-7268 to schedule an appointment for the inspection of the building. The inspector will need to have access to the establishment to carry out this inspection. The building inspection is necessary to ensure that the building meets state code requirements. Once the building is approved, the NC ABC Commission form is then given to the Fire Department for their review.
Fire Inspection
The Fire Department will contact the client upon receipt of the NC ABC Commission form to schedule a fire inspection. The client can contact the Fire Department at 919-996-6392 as soon as the permits are purchased to initiate the fire inspection request. The Fire Department will need access to the establishment to carry out the required fire inspection of the building. Once the application is approved, the NC ABC Commission is then given to the Police Department for final processing.
Police Department
The Police Department will complete the processing of the application and conduct the applicable background checks. Once complete, the client will be contacted at the telephone number provided on the NC ABC Commission form. The Police Department contact number is (919) 996-5130.
Duration
The entire process takes approximately three (3) weeks. The process usually takes 2-3 days between each inspection, and the Police Department will require approximately two (2) weeks for the background check.
