Business owners must first obtain a permit to sell automobiles within the City of Raleigh and its area of extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ). An auto dealer must obtain this permit before installing any type of sign.

Prerequisites

Contact the Development Services Customer Service Center (Site Review Specialist) to determine whether the property is properly zoned for an automobile dealership. The Site Review Specialist may determine that plans are required for review. If this is the case, applicants will be notified and advised about the process.
