Travis Crane is the Planning and Zoning Administrator in the City of Raleigh Planning and Development Department. His division maintains the Unified Development Ordinance, enforces and interprets the zoning regulations and provides support to the elected and appointed officials. Mr. Crane oversees the Raleigh Board of Adjustment a quasi-judicial body that acts on appeals for variances, special exceptions and interpretations in the zoning regulations. During his five year tenure with the City of Raleigh, Mr. Crane has served on the project team for the 2030 Comprehensive Plan, managed the creation of Raleigh’s first future land use map and served on the project team to draft, adopt and implement the Unified Development Ordinance. He previously managed the rezoning process and maintained the 2030 Comprehensive Plan.
Prior to employment with the City of Raleigh, Mr. Crane was a Planner for a suburb of Denver, Colorado. He was responsible for all facets of development review, entitlement acquisition, and maintenance of the zoning code and comprehensive plan. During his tenure he drafted the first Architectural and Site Design Manual and participated in many small area-planning processes. He also has experience in private sector planning and land development. Mr. Crane holds a bachelor of science from East Carolina University.
