District C Council Member
As a native of Raleigh, Corey has served the city of his birth in numerous ways since graduating and returning home from North Carolina A&T State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. While working at AT&T as a Senior Technical Director, Corey speaks out on behalf of the citizens of District C. He is particularly passionate about reliable bus service and adequate coverage in District C and works toward that goal as a member of the Raleigh Transit Authority.
As a member of the Board of Directors for WakeUp Wake County, he works to be a voice for District C, while looking out for all of Raleigh and Wake County. Corey also serves as Chairman for the Marrkens Development Group which focuses on education and partnerships. In addition, he serves his church as a Sound Engineer on the Audio Visual Team at Baptist Grove Church. As a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Corey shares his talent for communicating and organizing through the numerous leadership positions to which he has been appointed on the local, state, and regional levels. For the past four years, Corey has been the Regional Leadership Chair for a summer Leadership Institute hosting high school students from seven states. The institute has grown by 43% in participation under his direction. Corey manages the institute while also organizing a Legislative Day to meet with the General Assembly for the Association of North Carolina Alphamen.
A number of institutions have helped mold Corey into the leader he is. He continues to return to Greensboro, NC and supports North Carolina A&T State University Athletic, as well as the College of Engineering. He matriculated through Fuller GT Magnet Elementary School, Ligon GT Magnet Middle School, and William G. Enloe Magnet High School; all in the Wake County Public School System!
Corey's first job was with the City of Raleigh where he worked in the City Hall location with finance and mail services. He had a chance to interact daily with those in leadership and learn about the way city hall functions. He vividly remembers spending summers filing privilege licenses for businesses in Raleigh and delivering mail throughout the building.
Corey makes time to support his wife Chanda, a teacher with Wake County Public Schools and avid supporter of the arts. They were married in June of 2013 and plan to be newlyweds for at least another 50 years! He finds time to travel with his wife, relax with friends, and support his nephews in athletics and play with his brand new niece.
