Special collections of trash not normally collected by Solid Waste Services (such as appliances, furniture, carpeting, etc.) may be arranged for a fee of $50 per load.
The fee of $50 covers a Special Load Collection the size of four (4) cubic yards, which is equivalent to filling the bed of a standard-sized pickup truck. Residents may purchase more than one Special Load Collection at a time if they have more trash than four cubic yards. For example, pay $100 for two loads, $150 for three loads, etc. Solid Waste Services does not collect partial loads.
Once a Special Load has been paid for and scheduled, the Solid Waste Services crew will collect all or nothing (we do not pick up $50 worth of a $100 or more load). This allows us to comply with effectiveness and efficiency standards.
None of the items will be picked up if the amount due is more than the amount originally paid for. The full amount due must be paid for BEFORE ANY of it will be collected.

Are your items in useable, working condition? The City of Raleigh supports reuse of items over disposal. If you have items someone else may be able to use, please consider visiting the City's Swap Shop, conducting a yard sale, or donating items to a local charity. Reuse extends both the life of the item and the life of the landfill.

Include the address where the trash is to be picked up and a check or money order made out to the "City of Raleigh".
Note: Items placed at the curbside before making payment will not be picked up by regular garbage, recycling or yard waste collection crews, and are subject to or will be assessed administrative fees and civil penalties according to Section 7 of Raleigh City Code.
When preparing the materials for collection, please separate items into like piles (i.e. appliances together, brush all together, etc.). Please do not place yard waste in plastic bags or cans; they will not be emptied by the Special Load collection crews. Help the crew work efficiently by placing yard waste in biodegradable paper bags, (available at local hardware stores). Tree limbs do not need to be tied; simply pile them at the curb.
Note: EVERYTHING placed on the curb will be collected once you schedule a Special Load collection. Do not place items inside containers you do not wish to throw away.
Many items can be recycled - if you separate them from the rest of the trash. Please put the following items together in piles so the crews can keep them separated to be recycled:
* Metal items: grills, bikes, bed frames, exercise equipment, lawn mowers (drain gas and oil please)
* Electronic items: computer equipment, TV and stereo equipment, appliances, any item with a cord
(When scheduling your collection appointment tell the call center representative you have recyclable items in your Special Load!)
Place all items at the curb, not in the street. Be sure the items are clear of overhead utility lines, utility poles, guide wires, sign posts and utility boxes.
Special Load Pick Up cancellation is required by 3 pm the day before scheduled collection for a refund.
Special Load Pickup is not available for rocks, dirt, building materials, loose leaves, tree limbs larger than five feet long and six inches in diameter, car parts or stumps. Additional items not accepted for Special Load Pick Up include tires, chemicals and paints. Debris resulting from work done by a contractor will not be collected. This service is a residential service and not available to businesses or commercial entities.
