This four-hour course provides a comfortable and pleasant environment in which to learn the basics of paddling. Our calm, friendly instructors will help lay a strong foundation of skills so you will be ready for touring or moving-water instruction on local rivers. Kayak experience is not required, but participants should have basic swimming ability and comfort in water. Equipment and instruction are provided. Preregistration is required. Learn the basics of land navigation, including map-reading, compass use, land-feature identification and pace count. This program takes place outdoors and participants should be prepared for the weather. All equipment will be provided; however, if you have your own compass you are encouraged to bring it along. Introduction to Mountain Biking is a series of comprehensive mountain biking workshops. Qualified instructors provide a complete introduction to the sport of mountain biking. The program will be spent on the basics, starting with skills including shifting, braking, body position and overcoming obstacles. We will apply these skills on the newest single-track trails at Forest Ridge Park. Learn to ride comfortably, more smoothly and over bigger obstacles by experimenting with proven mountain biking methodology. Instruction and some equipment are provided.
