The Adult Program plans many one-day and overnight trips each year including cruises and international travel.

The Adult Program Trip Brochure is developed and available each Fall. This brochure provides patrons with a general schedule of trips, but does not include specific trip dates or costs. Approximately three months prior to each trip, a trip flier will be available. This flier will include trip details, including itinerary, dates, and cost.

2017 One-Day Trips
March - Clinton History Museum Village - Eleven separate buildings hidden on two acres, include a smokehouse, restored gas pumps, and authentic millstones. Trip already occurred.
June - Hurdle Mills Sunshine Lavender Farm Harvest Celebration - Inhale the sweet fragrance as you take a farm tour, learn how they plant, harvest, preserve, process the crop, and make crafts with the fresh lavender. Please note that this trip is now full and has a full waiting list.
September - North Carolina Beach - Want a day just to go to the beach, relax and enjoy the day? Sit on the beach and soak up the sun, take a walk along the shore finding those perfect seashells or do some light shopping. Trip has already occurred.
November - Wytheville, VA - Enjoy a delicious Holiday feast at Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theatre, as you are dazzled with dance numbers, beautiful costumes and songs you know and love. Download the Wytheville VA trip flier.
December - Hurdle Mills Sunshine Lavender Holiday Celebration - Back by popular demand is a trip to the Sunshine Lavender Farm, this time during the holiday season! Enjoy lavender hot chocolate and lavender shortbread cookies, pickup special lavender gifts and for an extra fee, create your own door swag. Download the Lavender Farm Holiday trip flier.
December - Mebane - Winter evenings are an amazing time to visit the critters at the Conservators Center. The lions, tigers, and wolves are energized by the brisk temperatures calling out to one another as the winter moon rises in the sky.
2017 Multi-Day Trips
September - Great Trains and Grand Canyons - Behold the breathtaking views of the vast Grand Canyon and wonders of the colors that fill the Western National Parks. Delve into the Native American history and experience the hard work it took to preserve this incredible land. Very few spots remain. Trip has already occurred.
Winter Holidays in New Orleans - Spend the holiday season in the “Jazz Capital of the World” filled with rich history and mouth-watering Cajun and Creole Cuisine. February 2018 - Costa Rica - Explore the natural wonders this tropical paradise is known for; rain forests, golden brown beaches and active volcano craters. Get closer than imagined to monkeys, sloths, birds and other wildlife. Download the Costa Rica trip flier.
SOAR (Senior Outdoor Adventure Recreation) Trips - On Hold
Looking for a group of adults to go on adventure trips with, well look no further. The Adult Program has teamed up with the Adventure Program to provide several fun and exciting adventure trips. This group is for individuals who are interested in doing indoor/outdoor adventure activities with other adults.
This group is not for the extreme sports person. The trips that are planned are geared towards, but not limited to, older adults who have an interest in more than the everyday trips. Each trip is escorted by at least 2 staff members; full or part-time staff from the Adult Program and/or Adventure Program.
Transportation will be on Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department bus or van unless otherwise noted. Smoking is not allowed on vehicles. Rest stops are made periodically during trips.
Read and Go / Read and Watch Programs
The Read and Go trips are related to a book that was read and discussed within the Read and Go program. These trips are open to everyone however, individuals registered in the Read and Go program have first opportunity to register.
Are you interested in going on a trip full of adventure, intrigue, love or sorrow without leaving the comforts of your chair? The Read and Watch program will center on reading a book that has been made into a movie. We will have a book discussion and then enjoy watching the movie!
March - Raleigh area- "Three Minutes to Midnight" by A.J. Tata. Trip already occurred.
April - Raleigh/Knightdale- "Moving Midway" by Godfrey Cheshire. Trip already occurred.
May - Wilmington- "The Last Treasure" by Erika Marks. Trip already occurred.
June - Hillsborough/Greensboro- "Regulated for Murder" by Suzanne Adair. Trip has already occurred.
July - Wilmington- "Hiding Gladys" by Lee Mims. Trip has already occurred.
September - Raleigh- "Last Ride to Graceland" by Kim Wright. Download the trip flyer and registration form.
Trip reservations are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis with payment and completed registration form. Note: Spaces are only reserved when a deposit/payment has been received.
Deposit and balance due dates for trips will be indicated on each trip itinerary. Payments can be made via check or credit cards. One-day trips require full payment with reservation! No reservations are held without payment, and "early" registration is not allowed.
Charter motor coach or a Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department bus or van. Type of vehicle will be noted on trip itineraries. Smoking is not allowed on charter buses or Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources vehicles. Rest stops are made periodically during trips.
All trips will depart from the Anne Gordon Center for Active Adults, 1901 Spring Forest Road, Raleigh 27608, unless otherwise noted. Cars may be parked here overnight.
We are unable to reserve seats on vehicles for special needs, such as motion sickness. Seating is available on a first-come, first-serve basis on the day of the trip. Seat rotation may be used on multi-day trips.
A full or part-time Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department employee escorts all trips.
Cancellations must be made at least 14 days prior to trip departure date to receive a refund, and must be requested in writing. Full or partial refunds will be made only if a replacement can be found, and are subject to non-refundable expenses incurred by the Department. If the Department cancels a trip, a full refund will be given.
Note: "No shows" for trips will receive no refund.
