There are many ways to reduce the toxicity with our environement. Why not start in the environment where you and your family spend most of your time...your home? Here are alternative cleaning products for environmentally friendly household cleaners.
Mix equal parts salt and baking soda. Scrub with mixture and wet sponge. Rinse with all purpose cleaner and warm water or half a lemon in borax.
Mix baking soda, fresh flowers and herbs.
Mix one-quarter cup of vinegar with one gallon of hot water. Also, baking soda, diluted liquid soap (not detergent), or borax is a good cleaner.
Scrub area with baking soda and wet sponge. Rinse with all-purpose cleaner.
Mix one teaspoon salt, tablespoon of flour and vinegar to make a thick paste. Rub on surface and let dry. Rinse in warm soapy water and buff dry.
Use 1/2 cup borax in one gallon of water.
Pour 1/4 cup of baking soda down drain; follow with 1/2 cup of vinegar. After fizzing stops, flush with boiling water. Better yet use plunger.
Put brewer's yeast or garlic in pet's food; sprinkle fennel, rue, rosemary or eucalyptus seeds or leaves around animal sleeping areas.
Mix one-half cup of white vinegar with one-half gallon of warm water.
Mix one-half cup of lemon juice in one cup of mineral or vegetable oil.
Use good old fashioned sandpaper!
Mix one tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice in one quart of water, spray on and use newspaper to wipe dry.
Use cedar chips, lavender flowers, rosemary, mint, white peppercorns.
After oven cools use steel wool and baking soda; for tough stains, add salt (not for use on self-cleaning or continuous cleaning ovens).
Planting marigolds in your garden will ward off certain pests.
Mix one-quarter cup of white vinegar and one-quarter cup of liquid soap. Rub into stain and then blot. Rinse with warm water.
Wipe leaves with mild soap and water, rinse.
Sprinkle powdered boric acid in cabinet edges, baseboards and cracks. For ants: place chili powder, talcum powder or powdered chalk at entry points.
Sprinkle liberally with baking soda, wait fifteen minutes and vacuum.
Boil 2-3 inches of water in pan with 1 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon baking soda and sheet of aluminum foil, submerge silver boil 2 or 3 minutes dry.
Use a toilet brush and baking soda or vinegar.
Use dry cornstarch.
