In place of their regular February meeting, BPAC will be holding a retreat on February 3rd at Magnolia Cottage, Lake Johnson Park.

Purpose

The Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission is an all-volunteer advisory body, appointed by the City Council to provide guidance and leadership on all matters concerning bicycle and pedestrian activities and accommodation in Raleigh. BPAC members are responsible for making recommendations on the implementation of relevant programs, policies, regulations, and funding priorities regarding walking and cycling in the City of Raleigh.

Subcommittee(s)

Education Committee

Established to organize and implement bicycle and pedestrian education and safety initiatives. The committee partnered with Steven Goodridge, a League of American Bicyclists certified instructor, and the Raleigh Police Department to create a "Bicycle Safety and Law Enforcement" training module and is currently prioritizing activities for the fall of 2011.

Planning Committee

Established to promote pedestrian oriented development, including in mixed-use infill and retail opportunities. The committee will be playing an active role in the development of the City's new Development Code to ensure that multi-modal transportation elements are addressed.

Special Events Committee

Established to coordinate bicycle activities in Raleigh. Partnering with the RBC center, this committee will work to create safe and fun bicycle activities/races for cyclists.

Hillsborough Corridor Ad Hoc Committee

Established to evaluate and determine the preferred bicycle and pedestrian accomodations along the entire Hillsborough Street corridor.
