
In 1993, Councilmember Odom was first elected to the Raleigh City Council in District B, which covers the northeastern part of the city. He served for an unprecedented five terms, including stints as deputy mayor and mayor pro-tem. In those positions, he was known for having an easy-going manner and willingness to work with other members of the City Council.
Mr. Odom is a decorated Vietnam War Veteran, serving from 1967 to 1969. He also served as the executive director of the Greater Raleigh Merchants Association and is the owner of three Meineke car care centers.
Never losing sight of his commitment to public service, Odom, was the Republican nominee for State Insurance Commissioner in 2008.
Mr. Odom was re-elected to the Raleigh City Council in 2009.
