The City of Raleigh is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and participated in the U. S. Mayor's Conference Climate Control Agreement.

Alternative Transportation

Why drive to work or the nearest shopping when there are plenty of alternatives to use? Raleigh residents can use either the R-Line or the Capital Area Transportation (CAT) bus systems to travel around town instead of driving.

Friendly to cyclists, the buses have fold down racks in the front to hole your bicycles. The City of Raleigh encourages bicycling and has developed a Bicycle Transportation Plan to facilitate cycling as a viable transportation alternative throughout the City.

Commuting to Work

Tired of driving by yourself long distances to work? Visit Triangle Transit to try out a vanpool or a carpool, make some new friends, and help to cut down on greenhouse gases. If you can't find a vanpool, then visit Share the Ride NC to find a carpool partner.

Alternative Fuels

If you aren't able to use an alternative form of transportation, try an alternative fuel source. The City of Raleigh is preparing for the future through Project Get Ready - a program promoting the use of electric vehicles. Additional programs are in place to promote alternative fuels, such as propane and ethanol.
