Minimum Requirements

3 years of relevant experience performing journey level automotive mechanic work on acombination of various types of light and heavy equipment. HS graduate (or GED), supplemented by certified technical training in air conditioning, refrigeration, and NC inspections. Knowledge of the methods, tools, and materials used in maintaining and repairing automotive and related equipment. Ability to diagnose defects in automotive equipment and to perform complex mechanical repairs independently. Skill in the use and care of tools, equipment and materials used in all types of automotive repair work. Must furnish own tools. A Valid NC Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or the ability to obtain within 45 days of hire, NC State Inspection License, A/C and refrigeration Certification within 90 days of hire. May be required to perform special tasks during emergency and disaster events.

Position Duties

Performs major mechanical repairs and adjustments on engines, drive lines, brakes and steering, electrical, cooling, suspension, or related systems on a variety of a combination of light and heavy equipment; replaces universal joints, engines, differentials, axles, transmissions, exhaust components as required; and repairs/replaces carburetors, alternators, starters, hydraulic pumps, cylinders, valves, gears, bearings; diagnoses and repairs electrical systems.
