Minimum Requirements

Less than 1 year of experience in repair and testing of water meters or related machine repair and assembly. HS diploma (or GED). Basic computer skills with proficiency in Oracle Customer Care and Billing preferred. Knowledge or ability to acquire knowledge of navigating City streets and proper water meter maintenance procedures within a reasonable time period. Ability to work efficiently, independently, and have excellent time management skills.  Ability to follow oral and written instructions thoroughly and with little supervision.  A Valid NC Class "C" Driver's License. May be required to perform special tasks during emergency and disaster events. Must be able to pass a physical in order to wear a respirator. This position is for second shift. Alternate work schedules may apply.

Position Duties

Dismantles, cleans, and replaces water meters; repairs leaks using a cutting torch and small power tools. Tests meters for proper functioning and accuracy. Keeps standard records, reports, and completes work orders using a laptop in the field. Performs pressure and volume tests on meters. Uses a locator and installs and replaces residential backflows. Connects/disconnects water meters due to new service, final bill, emergency requests, delinquent accounts, and obtains water meter readings for billing purposes. Provides customer service by completing service requests in a timely manner, meeting customers, fielding questions from customers regarding billing service requests in a timely manner, interpreting City code in regards to water meters, crossed lines, and meter tampering situations. Safety operates and properly maintains City of Raleigh vehicle.
