Part Time Position: Camp Counselor - ESL Nature Talk

Minimum Requirements

Candidates must:

Be at least 18 years old
Be able to lift and/or move 25 pounds.
Have a valid NC driver's license with a good driving
College educated preferred

Knowledge and Skills:

Applicants should have prior experience working with children from different ethnic, national, cultural, and social-economic backgrounds
Background in Recreation, Natural Resources, Biology, Education or other related area of study preferred
Excellent communication skills
Must be creative, reliable, and punctual
Organized, responsible, confident in dealing with conflict resolution
Spanish and multiple Asian language skills a plus
North Carolina ESL/Bilingual Licensed Teacher a plus

Position Duties

Staff needed to work in an outdoor camp with children ages 6-10 whose primary language is other than English. Staff will assist children in gaining a fuller understanding of the English language, nature and ecology.

Camp sessions run from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, June 11 to July 13. Mandatory training begins in mid May and continues throughout June. Camp planning and preparation may begin on May 28.

Responsibilities:

Program and lead camp activities as well as taking care of the daily needs of a group of campers
Enforce all City of Raleigh and ESL Program policies, rules, and regulations
Recognize and respond appropriately in emergencies
Administer minor first-aid and CPR as needed. Training provided.
Attend weekly staff meetings
Maintain camp equipment and keep facilities clean
Supervise the transportation of participants
Participate in and supervise all camp activities including swimming, canoeing, games, crafts, nature, fishing, lunch, and field trips
Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor
