Minimum Requirements

Candidates must:

  • Be a native Spanish-speaker and fluent in English
  • Have experience supervising staff and developing schedules
  • Be knowledgeable of Hispanic and Latin American Culture
  • Be able to lift and/or move 25 pounds. 
  • Have a valid NC driver's license with a good driving record

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Applicants must have prior experience working with children from different ethnic, national, cultural, and social-economic backgrounds 
  • Experience in a camp setting preferred
  • Background in Recreation, Latin American Studies, Spanish or other related area of study preferred
  • North Carolina ESL/Bilingual Licensed Teacher is a plus 
  • Have initiative and interest in engaging counselors and participants in the various cultural components outlined in the camp curriculum
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Must be highly motivated, creative, reliable, and punctual 
  • Organized, responsible, confident in dealing with conflict resolution

Position Duties

Native-Spanish speaker needed to work in an outdoor camp with children ages 6-10 as they discover traditions from different Hispanic countries through music, dance, language, and arts & crafts. Camp session runs from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday from August 13-17. Mandatory training begins mid May and continues throughout June. Camp preparation and planning begins on July 30.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in staff training
  • Supervise all camp staff, summer youth, specialists, volunteers, and campers
  • Program age-appropriate activities
  • Ensure that counselors keep campers active and engaged in all camp activities including swimming, canoeing, games, crafts, nature, fishing, lunch, and field trips
  • Enforce all City of Raleigh and ESL Program policies, rules, and regulations and document any incidents
  • Recognize and respond appropriately in emergencies and administer CPR and first-aid as needed. Training provided.
  • Lead weekly staff meetings and staff evaluations
  • Maintain camp equipment and keep facilities clean
  • Supervise the transportation of participants
