Minimum Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • 5+ years experience working with youth and adults with special needs, preferably in a supervisory role.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Special Education, Therapeutic Recreation, Adapted Physical Education, or related field preferred
  • CPR, First Aid, EpiPen training, or ability to obtain
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • High level of motivation, creativity, and organization
  • Leadership experience

 

Position Duties

Camp Friendly is a summer camp for youth, teens, and young adults with developmental and physical disabilities. Camp activities include traditional outdoor camp activities (canoeing, fishing, swimming, hiking, arts & crafts, etc) that have been modified to meet the specific needs of campers. Camper to counselor ratio ranges from 1:1 to 3:1.

The Director will be responsible for all aspects of camp, including, programming, monitoring the safety of campers, and supervision of staff.

Position Hours: 35-45 hours per week. Schedule typically runs M-F within the hours of 8:00am-5:00pm, but may vary. Hours may be decreased based on camper registration numbers. Must be available for the following dates:

  • Pre-camp planning:5-10 hours per week, March-May
  • Training: Dates will be available during the interview process. Training will take place in mid may and early June.
  • Camp: June 11-August 10, 2012

Responsibilities include:

  • Enforce all City of Raleigh Parks & Recreation policies
  • Medication Administration
  • Behavioral Intervention
  • Oversee program activity planning
  • Supervision of Senior and Junior Counselors
  • Registration of campers
  • Provide personal care (toileting, changing, diapering, feeding) to campers
  • Appropriately address behaviors related to disabilities (running away from the group, biting, pinching, screaming, non-compliance).
  • Handle emergency situations (medical conditions, behavioral meltdowns, etc.).
