Part Time Position: Camp Friendly Senior Counselor

Minimum Requirements

  • 3+ years experience working with youth and adults with special needs, in a supervisory role
  • Bachelor's Degree in Special Education, Therapeutic Recreation, Adapted Physical Education, or related field preferred
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • High level of motivation, creativity, and organization

Position Duties

Camp Friendly is a summer camp for youth, teens, and young adults with developmental and physical disabilities. Camp activities include traditional outdoor camp activities (boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, arts & crafts, etc) that have been modified to meet the specific needs of our campers. Staff will participate in these activities with campers and will be outdoors for most of the day. Camper to counselor ratios range from 1:1 to 3:1.

The Senior counselor will work with 2-3 Junior Counselors to provide activities and personal care to a group of 9-15 campers, ages 6-21 years, with Developmental Disabilities and/or Physical Disabilities.

Must be available for the following dates:

  • Training: Dates will be available during the interview process. Training will take place in mid may and early June
  • Camp: June 11-August 10, 2012

Position Hours: 35-45 hours per week. Schedule typically runs M-F within the hours of 8:00am-5:00pm, but may vary. Hours may be decreased based on camper registration numbers.

Responsibilities:

  • Leading group activities
  • Providing direction and supervision to junior counselors
  • Communicating with parents
  • Providing personal care (toileting, changing, diapering, feeding) to campers
  • Addressing behaviors related to disabilities (running away from the group, biting, pinching, screaming, non-compliance).
  • Handling emergency situations (medical conditions, behavioral meltdowns, etc.).
