Minimum Requirements

  • Previous experience working with youth and/or adults with special needs;
  • Interest, training, and/or degree - not required but preferred - in the field(s) of Education,
  • Therapeutic Recreation, Adapted Physical Education, youth sports, youth counseling, or related subject
  • Valid N.C. Driver's License
  • Effective oral communication and professional attitude
  • Ability to collaborate with other counselors, show initiative, and remain focused on the participant's experience and success in the program
  • Ability to complete training (provided) in the following areas: Customer Service, Policy and Procedure, CCBI and other additional trainings as required.

Position Duties

This is a part-time, temporary position which provides assistance to a participant or participants with special needs, in a typical program.

Position Hours: 10-36 hours per week. Schedule typically runs M-F within the hours of 7:30am-6:30pm, but may vary. Position will assist at the various programs listed below (but are not limited to these):

  • Summer Camp, June 11 - August 17, 2012: 7:30am - 6:00pm
  • Track Out 1, 2, 3, and 4 at Barwell Road, Brier Creek, Lake Lynn and Marsh Creek: 7:30am - 6:00pm.
  • Before School Xpress at various sites: 7:00am - 9:00am
  • After School Xpress at various sites: 2:00am - 6:00pm

Responsibilities:

  • Implement the Inclusion Plan for the participant(s)
  • Help staff make accommodations or modifications to the program
  • Assist the participant to engage in all activities
  • Share knowledge or recommendations with site staff
  • Be positive, alert, and actively engaged in the program or activity
  • Allow the participant(s) to develop independence and self-sufficiency
  • Communicate with parents, other counselors, and supervisors about the observed needs/behaviors of the participant(s)
  • Identify any needs, questions, or concerns and communicate these with Inclusion Coordinator
