Minimum Requirements

  • Experience working with teenagers in a camp, afterschool, or recreation setting
  • Experience programming recreational activities and games for teenagers
  • Available Monday-Friday 7:00am-6:00pm throughout the summer
  • 20 years of age or older
  • High School Graduate
  • Valid NC drivers license
  • Must pass City of Raleigh criminal background check

Position Duties

The Teen Specialty Camps serve ages 11-17 and is unique due to the variety of activities each camp will encompass.  The summer is divided into 6 different camps.  Camps run from June 11-August 10.  The camps are as follows: Counselor In Training, Campus Cruisin', Teen Corps, All Access Sports, Student Police Academy, and Youth Fire Academy.  The Assistant Director is responsible for implementing camp activities under the guidance of the Camp Director and assisting the Director in designing and leading the programs.  Applicants for this position must be well rounded, organized, and a self starter. 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to work with groups of teenagers
  • Ability to guide and lead teens during summer camp programming
  • Understanding of teenagers developmental needs
  • High level of maturity, communication skills, and confidence
  • Strong desire to work with teenagers
  • Ability to act as a positive role model for teens

Responsibilities:

  • Implement summer camp programming under the guidance of the Camp Director
  • Running activities and programs
  • Paperwork
  • Handling discipline issues
  • Recognize and respond appropriately in emergencies
  • Enforce all City of Raleigh and Teen Program policies, rules, and regulations
  • Supervise 13-24 campers depending on the camp
  • Attend and complete all required City of Raleigh trainings starting in mid May including First Aid/CPR and City of Raleigh Driving Permit
  • Maintain a high quality, safe, and enriching program
  • Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor
