Welcome to the Pullen Arts Center's Pottery Studio!

An educational and recreational facility, we offer classes and equipment for those looking to learn and to practice their wheel throwing and handbuilding skills. We welcome beginning and experienced potters to join our community environment to learn new skills and to improve upon and develop existing skills.

Raleigh residents and non-residents can participate in our pottery programs either by taking classes or by purchasing a studio card that will allow them to work independently when classes are not in session. Participants are eligible to purchase a studio card after they have completed a qualifying class.

Studio

Our pottery studio is bright and open with lots of natural light. Our studio is equipped with 18 electric wheels, a slab roller, an extruder, a variety of plaster molds, canvas tables, slips for cones 6 & 10, and a variety of non-commercial glazes for cones 6 & 10.

We have a variety of cone 6 and cone 10 stoneware clays along with a wide selection of pottery tools available for purchase from our store.

Kiln Firings

Our staff fire participant work in the electric kilns and the gas kiln. Since we are an educational community facility (and not a production-oriented studio), pottery made in classes and workshops always takes priority over work made during open studio time.

Care will be taken with all pottery handled by staff, however, the City of Raleigh, Parks and Recreation Department, and Pullen Park Arts Center staff are not responsible for any piece of work at any time.

Please note that open studio hours are only available to current studio card holders and students currently enrolled in a class. Posted open studio hours are subject to change. Please call to make sure the studio will be open before you come in.
