Recent and Upcoming Assessment Hearings

Public Hearing Dates, Assessment Rolls, and Assessment Maps

Last Modified: May 10, 2012

State statutes allow the City of Raleigh to pass a portion of the cost of street, sidewalk and utility improvements to abutting property owners in the form of a special assessment. Property owners are notified of the city's intent to assess their property and given the opportunity to speak at a public hearing before an assessment is adopted by the City Council. Once an assessment has been adopted, it becomes a lien against the property.

Upcoming Hearings to Authorize Assessment Projects

Before construction begins on an assessable project, abutting property owners are notified of the City's intent to assess their property for an upcoming improvement project. At that time, a public hearing is scheduled to allow the City Council to receive public input before authorizing the project to proceed. Once a project is authorized, property owners are notified of Council's decision and the affected properties are entered into the City's assessment database. The projects listed below have been scheduled for a public hearing to authorize assessments or referred for further consideration.

There are no public hearings scheduled to authorize assessments on future projects scheduled for June.

Upcoming Hearings to Confirm Assessment Rolls

Once an assessable project has been completed and the assessment amounts calculated, a public hearing is scheduled to allow the City Council to receive public comments regarding the project. After the hearing, the Council may confirm the assessment charges or refer the assessment roll to a committee or to administration for further consideration. The projects listed below have been scheduled for a public hearing to confirm assessments or referred for further consideration.
