Current Activity

The project design plans have been completed by design consultant, WSP, and are under review by the City's Development Services Department. Private utility relocation is anticipated for November and should last about three to four weeks. A construction bid for the project is scheduled for November with construction expected in Winter 2018.

Summary

The primary study area is within Falls of the Neuse Road, Quail Ridge Road, Doubles Court, and Marsh Creek. Where Marsh Creek meets the drain system there is a total drainage area of 42 acres. The upper limits of the Beechwood-Cypress project area has numerous homes that are experiencing yard, garage, and basement flooding due to a poor design or, in some cases, there is no drainage system in place. Residents are using sump pumps to prevent their basements from flooding and to divert surface flow from the upstream watershed.

The recommended drainage improvements involve installing a new drainage system along Beechwood Drive to reduce flooding and divert flow away from homes that are flooding.

History

Due to neighborhood concern, a preliminary analysis was performed in 2012-2013, which identified multiple deficiencies in the open systems (ditches and swales) and closed systems (pipes and inlets). The analysis also identified areas for improvement and several alternate solutions have been presented.
