Raleigh's Permanent Water Conservation Measures
Last Modified: August 22,
2011
All City of Raleigh water customers currently are under Permanent Conservation Measures. These measures include actions that are both mandatory and voluntary. Restrictions apply to everyday water usage and will not change unless we enter more stringent water conservation stages.
Do Permanent Conservation Measures apply to me?
Permanent Conservation Measures (PCM) apply to City of Raleigh water customers located in: Raleigh, Garner, Knightdale, Rolesville, Wake Forest, Wendell, and Zebulon.
Which requirements are mandatory?
- ALL irrigation systems and water customers must operate in a manner to prevent water waste and the application onto impervious surfaces, such as streets; sidewalks; parking lots and driveways.
- Restaurants to only serve potable water when requested by patrons.
- Hotels to only change linens when requested by guests.
*As of May 1st, 2012, the mandatory irrigation days and times have been repealed and are now included as voluntary actions.
Which requirements are voluntary?
There are several things that water customers may do if they care to be more efficient with their water usage:
- ALL residential water customers are requested to limit their consumption to 65 GPCPD; and abide by the BMPs listed in Appendix A of the Water Shortage Response Plan, WSRP.
- Irrigation of landscapes is recommended to have a maximum of one inch per week.
- All water customers are expected to monitor their water usage to determine the weekly irrigation volume.
- Water plants deeply and less frequently to encourage root growth.
- Identify and repair all water leaks.
- Wash only full loads in washing machines and dishwashers.
- Use spring-loaded nozzles on garden hoses.
- As of May 1st, 2012, the mandatory irrigation days and times have been repealed and are now included as voluntary actions. Try to water lawns early in the morning versus the middle of the day when evaporation rates are high.
