Albemarle Avenue to Remain Closed for Lower Longview Lake Dam Rehabilitation Project

News posted Mar. 31, 2017 - 4:00 pm

The City of Raleigh’s Stormwater Management Division began construction this week at Lower Longview Lake, which is located off of Albemarle Avenue, to make necessary repairs to the lake’s dam. The portion of Albemarle Avenue over the Lower Longview Lake dam will remain closed for the duration of the project and until the street is considered safe for pedestrian and vehicle traffic.

A traffic detour is currently in effect for vehicles and blockades are in place to ensure pedestrian safety during construction. Vehicle and foot traffic are not permitted in areas directly surrounding the Albemarle Avenue bridge. The City urges all residents and visitors to use alternate routes to bypass Albemarle Avenue.

Albemarle Avenue has been closed since 2009 after it was determined that the bridge structure was unsafe. This dam rehabilitation project will make the required structural repairs to the dam to improve public safety.

Project updates are available on our Lake Dam Rehabilitation Project page. Questions about the project and road closure can be directed to the Stormwater Management Division at 919-996-3940.
