Law Enforcement Accreditation Assessment Team Invites Public Comment
"A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®) will arrive on Dec. 4 to examine all aspects of the Raleigh Police Department’s policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services,” Chief Cassandra Deck-Brown announced today. “Verification by the team that the Department meets the Commission’s state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation – a highly prized recognition of public safety professional excellence,” she said.
As part of the assessment, agency personnel and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session on Dec. 6 at 5 p.m. The session will be conducted in the City Council Chamber, Room 201 of Raleigh Municipal Building, 222 W. Hargett St.
If an individual cannot speak at the public information session but would still like to provide comments to the assessment team, they may do so by calling (919) 996-1167 on Dec. 5 between the hours of 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Telephone comments as well as comments made at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA Standards. The Raleigh Police Department is required to comply with 383 nationally recognized professional standards in order to maintain its accredited status through CALEA. Accreditation is valid for four years, during which time the agency must submit annual reports demonstrating continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited.
