GoRaleigh Station Grand Opening Set for May 23
GoRaleigh Station’s grand opening celebration will take place May 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Leading the festivities will be Mayor Nancy McFarlane, who along with other City Council members and transit advocates will give remarks.
The grand opening will feature a bus tour for first-time riders and interactive activities for all.
Phase two of the GoRaleigh Station renovation is complete, and all platforms opened to buses and passengers on May 1. New at the station are more than three dozen display monitors featuring real-time information for passengers, restrooms, information booth, ticket vending machines, bike racks, stairwell and elevator.
Where will all of those bus shelters along Martin Street go?
The temporary bus shelters along Martin Street across from the station will be removed and immediately placed at recently constructed bus shelter sites throughout the city.
How long did the project take and what did it cost?
GoRaleigh Station renovations included two phases, beginning with the groundbreaking in February 2016. Phase one was completed in December 2016 and phase two completed in April 2017. Total estimated costs for the new station are approximately $10 million. The project was supported by federal, state and local funding.
How does GoRaleigh Station fit in with the Wake Transit plan?
GoRaleigh Station serves 35 GoRaleigh and GoTriangle bus routes on a daily basis. During peak periods, close to 80 buses travel through the station hourly. As the Wake Transit plan is implemented, routes will be added and become more frequent. The estimated amount of buses passing through Downtown could top 150 per hour when the plan is fully implemented.
