News posted Feb. 09, 2017 - 10:00 am

The City of Raleigh has scheduled a public meeting on proposed pedestrian and transit improvements on New Bern Avenue between Tarboro Road and Sunnybrook Road. The public meeting will be held Wednesday, Feb. 22, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Tarboro Road Community Center, 121 N. Tarboro Road.

The improvements proposed for New Bern Avenue include sidewalks, curbs and gutters, a multi-use path, upgraded transit stops, LED street lighting, pedestrian/traffic signal modifications, streetscape, and landscaping.

The purpose of the meeting is for the City of Raleigh and its engineering design consultant, Kimley-Horn and Associates, to show the public the initial design of the improvements and how it may impact property owners. Comments from citizens also will be accepted at the public meeting.

The public meeting will begin with an informal design review session followed by a short presentation at 6:15 p.m. A question-and-answer session starts at 6:30 p.m. Afterward, the project consultant and City representatives will be available for one-on-one discussions. There will be mapping available showing the proposed improvements and adjacent development for reference.

Individuals with hearing impairments who need interpreter services at the public meeting should provide 48-hour notice by calling the City’s Communications Department at 919-996-3100 (voice) or 919-996-3107 (TDD).
