Support for Neighborhood-Based Organizations

Last Modified: May 08, 2012
Community Specialists and Community Services Assistants

Community specialists are staff members of the Neighborhood Services Division of the Community Services Department. The Division houses many of the City's programs that engage and empower residents in areas that enhance their quality of life.

Making Connections

Community specialists work to connect residents to services and programs that help keep their neighborhoods strong. The specialists are trained to help neighborhoods discover their strengths and assets and to mobilize people to take action on their own behalf. They assist residents as they form and maintain neighborhood-based organizations.

Community specialists provide staff support for Citizens Advisory Councils (CACs). They attend CAC meetings and promote neighborhood participation in CACs.

They also coordinate and provide assistance to the Fair Housing Hearing Board, Hispanic-Latino Initiatives, Raleigh Neighborhood Registry, Citizens Leadership Academy, Neighborhood Exchange and Neighborhood College.
