ESL Nature Talk Camp, Campers enjoying the view at Lake Johnson!

The English as a Second Language (ESL) program offers 3 summer camps for children from 6 to 10 years old.

ESL Nature Talk Camp at Lake Wheeler

In this outdoor camp, children whose first language is not English learn about nature and practice their English skills at the same time. Activities will include:

  • Nature programs
  • Arts and crafts
  • Games
  • Fishing and boating trips
  • Sports
  • Field trips
  • Hiking
  • Specialist presentations
  • Trips to the local pool
  • And much more!

When
This camp is offered in two sessions. Children can attend just one or both, but they must register and pay for each. Camps operate from 8am - 5pm.

Session 1 | June 17 - June 28
Session 2 | July 8 - July 19

Who

  • Children whose first language is not English
  • Children between 6 and 10 years old

Cost

  • Raleigh residents: $35 total
  • Residents of other cities: $47 total

Roving X-Press Camp at Brentwood Park

The Roving X-Press Camp is a special reduced-fee camp for all children of any language. This is a traditional outdoor camp where children enjoy recreational activities in a group setting. Activities will include:

  • Arts and crafts
  • Games
  • Sports
  • Fieldtrips
  • Specialist presentations
  • A trip to the local pool
  • Camp-provided lunch at no additional cost
  • Nature programs
  • And more!

When
July 29 - August 9 | 8am - 5pm

Who

  • Children from 6 to 10 years old
  • Registration includes demonstrating financial need

Program Cost

  • Raleigh residents: $25 total
  • Residents of other cities: $37 total

Hispanic Heritage Camp at Lake Johnson

We invite you to make this summer one you will never forget! Hispanic Heritage is an indoor summer camp where children will have fun and discover traditions from different Hispanic countries through:

  • Arts and crafts
  • Dance
  • Music
  • Spanish language
  • Games
  • Sports
  • Outdoor activities
  • Fieldtrips
  • A trip to a local pool
  • Boating and fishing
  • Specialists from different Hispanic countries
  • Nature programs
  • Hiking

When
August 19 - August 23 | 8am - 5pm

Who

  • Children from 6 to 10 years old
  • Knowledge of Spanish language is not necessary

Program Cost

  • Raleigh residents: $85 total
  • Residents of other cities: $97 total

Volunteering

The English as a Second Language (ESL) Program offers a variety of ways for people to volunteer. Note that for all volunteer opportunities knowledge of a language other than English is NOT necessary. Opportunities are flexible with ongoing or 1-time options.
