The City began weekly curbside collection of yard waste from Raleigh residents in November of 1992 to meet state mandates prohibiting yard waste from being disposed of in landfills. The City also opened the City of Raleigh Yard Waste Center to recycle the yard waste materials into wood chips, mulch and compost at the same time.
Examples of yard waste debris acceptable at the Yard Waste Center include grass clippings, shrubbery trimmings, leaves, limbs, logs, brush, pine straw, and hay. Yard waste material must not be mixed with other trash, rocks, or dirt.

Did You Know?
Up to 30% of the waste you generate at home could be composted in your own backyard! This would save collection and transporation costs by City crews and reduce pollution. In addition, it would provide you with fantastic nutrient rich compost you can place back into your garden.
