Park Office

Park Office/Concessions

  • Come by the park office to rent a boat, pay for a private launch, sign up for a class, check out a free rod and reel or grab a snack before you hit the trail
  • Open daily from dawn to dusk (closed Mondays from October - March)
  • Note: Classes, programs, and special events may lengthen hours.

Rules & Policies

Park Rules

  • Swimming/wading is not allowed
  • All dogs must be under control and on a leash
  • Pet owners must clean up after their pet
  • Alcohol is only permitted at special events that have applied for a City of Raleigh Alcohol permit
  • Smoking is only permitted in the parking lot
  • Biking is allowed only on the paved greenway and the woodchip trail leading to the boardwalk at the headwaters of the lake

Boat Rentals

  • Jon Boats (no motor): $4/hour, $20/day
  • Jon Boats (with motor): $10/hour, $50/day
  • Pedal Boats: $6/half hour
  • Canoes/Kayaks: $5/hour
  • Sunfish Sailboats: $10/hour + $20 refundable deposit (must be 18 or older) - max wind speed 16mph
  • Policies
  • You must be at least 16 years old to rent a boat unless otherwise noted
  • Jon Boats and Pedal Boats cannot be launched unless the combined temperature of the water and air exceeds 100 degrees to offset the possibility of hypothermia
  • Canoes, Kayaks, Tandem Kayaks, and Sailboats cannot be launched unless the temperature of the water exceeds 65 degrees to offset the possibility of hypothermia
  • Wind speed also dictates whether or not boat rentals are permitted. All boats have a max wind speed of 13mph unless otherwise noted.
  • Please call ahead to determine any weather conditions for the day.

Boat Launches

Boat Launches

  • Lake Johnson allows non-trailer, electric motorized boats to be launched sunrise to sunset, 7 days a week, year-round, unless the park or lake is closed.
  • All boats must be off the water 15 minutes prior to sunset. They may only be launched at the designated launching site.
  • City Resident - $4 day
  • Non Resident - $6 day
  • Senior (62+) or Veteran - $2 day

Fishing

Fishing

  • Bank fishing is prohibited
  • Fishing is permitted from our boardwalk, rental boats, or personal boats
  • A current NC fishing license is required to fish at Lake Johnson.
  • Live bait can be purchased from the onsite bait vending machine located on the main deck of the Boathouse from March - October
  • Tackle Loaner Program - with an ID you can borrow a rod and reel from us for free.

  • Kitchenette includes fridge/freezer, sink and ice machine
  • Access to 6' x 2.5' rectangular folding banquet tables (11), 6' x 1.5' rectangular folding banquet tables (11) and 45 padded chairs, 99 folding chairs
  • 20' x 20' Verandah features rocking chairs overlooking the lake
  • Deck features picnic tables and large outdoor patio with seasonal flowers and gorgeous view of Lake Johnson
  • $75/hour (2hr minimum) - $40 setup fee, $15 application and $100 refundable deposit
  • With verandah $105/hr
  • With verandah and deck $135/hr
  • Indoor rental facilities are allowed after park hours up to midnight (12am), there is a $40/hour after hours staffing fee.
  • Please ask about alcohol permits (available for indoor rentals only) and catering options and fees.
