Residential Collection
A weekly curbside collection system provides residents the convenience of having garbage, recycling and yard waste pickup all on the same day. Each single-family home or townhouse is provided a 96-gallon cart to be used for garbage. The sturdy, dark green cart is spacious and easy to roll.
Nearly 80,000 tons of garbage is collected each year and taken to the Wake County Landfill for disposal.
The Solid Waste Services Department also administers a contract for collection and disposal of garbage at multi-family complexes. Nearly 45,000 tons of garbage is collected from these communities.
Downtown commercial collection and disposal is provided six days a week at the curbside in the central business district.
Other services provided by the department include special collection for residents needing assistance, bus stop can collection, and dead animal collection.
