Guidelines for Landlords and Property Managers

The City of Raleigh offers this information as part of its continuing commitment to inform landlords and property managers of their legal responsibilities in order to assure quality housing for tenants and the surrounding neighborhood. The relationship between landlord and tenant is generally governed by the terms of the lease agreement. However State and Federal law -- with enforcement assistance from local governments -- impose certain conditions that the landlord and tenant cannot change, even if the lease purports to do so.

Please note that the information included in this web site does not substitute for legal advice on state or local laws and regulations.  If you have any doubt about how any of the federal, state or City of Raleigh housing or nuisance laws affect you or your property, seek advice from an attorney who has expertise on these matters.
