Public Workshops Round One
Planning Raleigh 2030 - Comprehensive Plan Update
Vision & Values
The City of Raleigh hosted the first three public workshops for the Comprehensive Plan on November 13, 14 and 15. Combined attendance at these workshops was well over 300 interested citizens. At each workshop, the participants saw a presentation summarizing trends, issues and opportunities facing the City, along with a draft vision statement and proposed guiding themes for the Plan. Participants than engaged in a facilitated discussion around table about the state of the City, whether the vision and themes were on-target and resonant, and what issues should be given particular focus as part of the Plan update. The agenda for these workshops can be found here.
Workshop Outcomes
Reports delivered by the tables at the workshops showed broad agreement with the organizing themes presented: Balanced Growth, Greenprint Raleigh, and Innovation, Education and Creativity. Participants stressed the importance of transportation options, affordable housing choices, environmental stewardship, diverse and mixed-income neighborhoods, and economic opportunity. At the November 15 workshop, regional coordination was highlighted as necessary to make headway on a broad range of issues. The Vision Statement and Themes will be revised and enhanced based on the workshop input.
The summary report on the November 2007 workshops is now avaible for review and comment.
