Process Description: A Stand Alone - Residential is a review and permit issuance for one of the following work types: Additions, renovations, moving a house, connecting to City water and sewer, irrigation off existing meters, application for separate meter, fire damage inspection request and final approval for fire damage permit. Residential Stand Alone reviews are only applicable for One and Two Family Dwellings including Town Homes and Condominiums for residential use. This type of review is also referred to as a “Walk Through”.
Contractor information (contractor license, contact information, business license, workers compensation, liability insurance, etc.) must be complete, current and valid in the City of Raleigh Contractor file. Contact the Development Services Customer Service Center at (919) 516-2495 to confirm the accuracy of all required data
Contractor must have proof of Workers Compensation, if applicable
Permit issuance for properties with Fire Damage must schedule an inspection prior to submitting Stand Alone building permit requests. To schedule a Fire Inspection call (919) 516-2576. This inspection will provide the property owner with a list of required areas and materials that will need to be replaced to meet current building code.
How do I start the process?
Complete an on-line ePermits application using the Online Development Center. Contractors may use the on-line application to process permits only for electrical, mechanical, and/or plumbing permits for minor alterations and repairs. Contact the Development Services Customer Service Center at (919) 516-2495 for information needed to create a new account for the Online Development Center

Complete a City of Raleigh Permit Application and submit it in person to the Development Services Customer Service Center located at One Exchange Plaza Suite 404, Raleigh, NC
House Move Packet is required for moving a house into the City of Raleigh, moving a house from one lot to another within the City of Raleigh and moving a house out of the City of Raleigh. The House Move Packet contains permit requirements, required inspections and application. Contact the Development Services Customer Service Center at (919) 516-2495 for a packet
Two (2) copies of plot plan for additions & house moves into the City of Raleigh and moving a house from one lot to another within the City of Raleigh. Plot plans are not required for moving a house out of the City of Raleigh. Must include a plot plan stamp
For projects that require Fire Protection features (Alarm, Sprinkler, Stand Pipes, Access, Fuel Tanks, etc.), please review and submit according to the Sprinkler and Standpipe Design Guide

Clearly identify proposed work. If proposed work involves addition and alteration work, a separate permit for each will be required
Fire damage permits will not be issued without fire damage inspection report being on file with the Inspections Department. Call (919) 516-2576 to check status
What fees are involved and when do I pay them?
Permit fees are due at the end of the review process before permits are issued
If you choose to process your permit request using the on-line e-Permits application (Online Development Center), payment by either Mastercard or Visa is accepted electronically at the end of the process
If you choose to process your permit request in the Development Services Customer Service Center, located at One Exchange Plaza Suite 404, the following payment types will be accepted: cash, Mastercard, Visa or check made payable to: City of Raleigh
