Who do I contact to set up a new water meter account? (City of Raleigh and neighboring towns)

Contact the City of Raleigh Utility Billing Services Division at (919) 890-3245.  Staff is also available to answer questions regarding existing water/sewer bills.

For information about City of Raleigh public water/sewer service in Wake County, contact the City of Raleigh Public Utilities Administration Division at (919) 857-4540.

For well and septic information, contact Wake County Environmental Services at (919) 856-7400.

Water meter/backflow devices are available for rental from the Operations Center located at Lake Woodard Road in Raleigh, NC.  For more information, contact (919) 250-2740.

Who enforces water conservation regulations, easement violations, illegal use of water/sewer?

Contact a City of Raleigh Public Utilities Code Enforcement Inspector at (919) 857-4540.

Who do I contact if my water is cloudy, has black specks in it or has a strange odor/taste?

Contact the EM Johnson Water Treatment Plant at (919) 890-2870.

What if I see a manhole overflowing or smell gas?

Contact (919) 250-2740 during normal business hours or (919) 829-1930 after hours.

Who do I contact if I need to test a fire hydrant or need a hydrant flow test?

Only a Certified Engineering Company approved by the Raleigh Fire Department may test hydrants or provide flow tests. Contact the Raleigh Fire Department at (919) 996-6392.
