Come Discover the World Through GIS

“Discover the World through GIS!” is a free, public event on Nov. 18, featuring exhibits, map galleries and demonstrations of how Geographic Information Systems (GIS) help address local and global issues every day. Wake County, City of Raleigh and State of North Carolina GIS offices will host the open house and map gallery on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at 205 Fayetteville St. (corner of Hargett and Fayetteville streets, downtown Raleigh.
Visitors to the colorful map gallery can vote for their favorite display and be eligible to win Carolina Hurricanes tickets. Creators of the winning maps will also receive prizes.
Participants will learn about and interact with GIS tools, including:
- Raleigh Police Department Crime Analysis
- New 3D Model of Downtown Raleigh
- Unveiling of New iMAPS Raleigh
- N.C. Economic Development Intelligence System (EDIS)
- Natural Heritage Program’s Conservation Planning Tool
- Public health maps showing diseases and related health outcomes statewide
- Automated Vehicle Location (AVL) and In-Vehicle Navigation (IVN) used by Wake EMS, Wake GIS and Raleigh-Wake 911 Center and
GIS Day is a global event held in more than 80 countries. The purpose of GIS Day is to educate children and adults about geography and the use of GIS around the world.
