Cultural / Convention District Strategic Development Plan Fayetteville Street Renaissance Jaume Plensa Art Project SEE MORE ON THE MAIN CITY WEB SITE	The designers are trying to learn from the best public spaces in the world in designing City Plaza.	Background:
		As part of the Convention Center Hotel agreement, the City will extend Fayetteville Street in the 1/2 block north of Lenoir Street to the same standards as in Fayetteville Street Phase 1. Also designs for what is being called City Plaza, between the Sheraton Hotel at the terminus of Fayetteville Street Phase 1, and the current site of the City Underground Parking Deck (under construction as of Dec. 2006), are being developed and will be presented to the City Council in February 2007. The City design team is being led by Kimley-Horn Associates and is being assisted by the Project for Public Spaces in New York. 	September 2007 - Property owners have not yet signed easement agreement, project re-bid in parts to allow Fayetteville St. Phase 2 (not including the plaza) to remain on schedule for completion in summer '08. July, 2007 - Construction plans are complete. Council funds initial $16 Million of project April, 2007 - City Council authorizes final construction drawings, budget. February, 2007 - City Council approves schematic design for plaza. Design Development drawings due in April. Fall, 2006 - City Council approves process for development of design and construction cost estimate for Fayetteville Street Phase 2 and City Plaza. No funding is approved as of this time.
