Fayetteville Street Renaissance
It’s open! Come downtown to see the new Fayetteville Street. Thousands did on July 29th at Raleigh Wide Open, the inaugural event celebrating the re-opening of the street. Food, fireworks and music underscored the completion of the renovation project for the 100-400 block of North Carolina’s Main Street.
The party marked the end of 16 months of construction that returns the street's 100 to 400 blocks to vehicular traffic. The conversion from a pedestrian mall began March 14, 2005 and came with a price tag of $9.33 million. T.A. Loving Company of Goldsboro was the project contractor.
The new street offers a wide streetscape for art, open space and outdoor dining. The new design allows flexibility for parades, festivals and other events, such as the opening celebration July 29.
